I had a really crazy last week, and can't believe it is already Wednesday of this week!
Last week, I worked as a Production Assistant on the film "Nous York." Did I tell you this already? The hours were crazy, but I got to drive all around and see lots of new neighborhoods. One day we were shooting in Brooklyn, so that day I found myself driving all around a neighborhood mostly populated with Hasidic Jews. The designer and I had to create Hassids from scratch (aka random background actors), so were shopping for clothes in the neighborhood in which these people live. The neighborhood seemed almost like from a different country- there was absolutely nobody in sight who was not wearing the traditional garb- from the clothes to the hats to the hair. If you don't know what they look like, google it. I didn't want to take pictures because I didn't want to be rude, especially since we already stood out so much. In any case, I got to see lots of neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens last week, which was great!
Last week I also had my 2nd round GAP interview- which I am going to see if I can post here. It went decently well but was very stressful because I had to have the interview while I was on my lunch break at Bloomingdale's on Wednesday DURING Eileen Fisher herself was making a presentation in our department! You'll have to trust me when I say that there really was no better time. I am supposed to hear back tomorrow, Nov 2. If i move to the 3rd round, I will be flying to CA for assessment day on Nov. 11.
This weekend is SNOWED in New York. I pulled out my down coat. I guess I'll be needing my snow boots sooner than I had expected!
I completely missed Halloween because I have been working all the time. Oh well. Next year.
This week thus far I've been at Bloomingdale's every day, but yesterday I got a call asking if I wanted to work on the new Spiderman movie, today I got a TEXT (what? people give job offers by text now?) asking if I could work for a stylist, and later today I got an email asking if I wanted to play principal 2nd for the Mannes orchestra. Really, too many things to do! I am grateful that there seems to be quite a bit of work available now in this field.
I am trying to find an apartment but it's sort of hard when I'm at work all the time. But it is also sort of hard to afford an apartment when I'm not at work all of the time.
I've been enjoying very much my time here with Meredith and Zeb. Meredith, her friend Vicki and I set up a Sunday afternoon time to play chamber music together. We play early music, so I tune my violin flat to match Meredith's harpsichord and Vicki's recorders.
Meredith recently made "Jane Schaller's $100 Cake." It was delicious, and I didn't know it was a family recipe!
Yesterday I helped Zeb go shopping for his first real winter coat! We looked around Bloomingdale's, decided it was too expensive even with my discount, and headed over to Century 21 where we had some better luck :).
